Interactive Multimedia Design

Stavros Vassos

Description

The course aims at providing an introduction to designing interactive multimedia products that become "alive" adapting to user interaction, by means of modern digital technologies.

No prior knowledge of technologies is assumed. The course covers an introduction to the three main aspects involved for designing interactive multimedia to be embedded in physical space installations:

  • Programming: Introduction to the fundamental concepts of computer programming using the widely-used Processing platform;
  • Interaction: Introduction to building virtual and mixed-reality experiences using modern interfaces for user input such as motion detection with Kinect;
  • Behavior: Introduction to designing smart interactions using the "Sense-Think-Act" paradigm from Artificial Intelligence.

In the last part there is a discussion on emerging technologies for future developments, e.g., the widely-used Unity game engine 3D-world mixed-reality experiences, as well as chat-bots and conversational interfaces.
